Visit to Stone Brewery

While visiting awesome friends in San Diego, we decided we must go to Stone Brewery!  Being home brewers ourselves and our friend being a chemical engineer, there was no question that we should go!  Best decision ever.

End of a good day with a visit to Stone Brewery

Let me turn the clock back about 24 hrs, and let you know what led up to this dinner.  Friday night, after a full week of work and classes after work, we drive down to San Diego to visit one of my husband’s oldest friends and his wonderful girlfriend.  His girlfriend had just been accepted for a PhD program in Austin that day, so we decided not to be old people, and go out for drinks to celebrate.  We ended up at this really cool speak-easy kinda bar that made super strong drinks and had live music!  Freak’n amazing.

We end up wandering back to our friends place to go to sleep, but only to wake up a few hours later (and by few, I literally mean 3 hours) to go on a fishing trip that we had bought coupons for.  Luckily we took some seasick medicine because we were all hung over the next day, and after half an hour on a moving boat, we did not feel that great.  Everyone else felt good enough to fish, but I had to put my head down for a while before I felt up to fishing.  We had a great time, but the fish weren’t biting much.  We did catch some, but I had a great time catching glimpses of dolphins and watching a sea-lion eat our bait and any fish that fell back in the water.

Back on shore, showered, exhausted, and starving, we head over to visit Stone Brewery.  The place had a modern-rustic feel to it.  [structural engineer geeking out:  They had cast the main concrete wall with the outline of a gargoyle!  (see picture below) So cool, but I would probably hate the architect if I were the engineer on the project]  I want my future house to look like that brewery.  If you ever get a chance, go check it out.  Even if you don’t drink, the atmosphere, garden area, and food are worth it.  But if you do drink, its like heaven!

You have the option of getting a taster of anything they have on tap, so of course, we had to try a few….  Everything they had was delicious!  We had the quail knots as an appetizer.  Sorry I don’t have a picture of them, but we were so hungry and they were so tasty, that I didn’t have time.  The main courses were great.  Locally made sausage, rabbit tacos, roasted chicken, and mac-beer n’ cheese!  They have a great variety and they pair all their food with their beers.

Sadly, we didn’t make it on time to take a tour, but that just means we will have to do it on our next visit to Stone Brewery.  Darn…;)
